Melodic news in brief

* Survivor have announced that they will release a new record late this year. Today the band consists of Frankie Sullivan (guitar), Robin McAuley (vocals), Marc Droubay (drums), Billy Ozzello (bass), Michael Young (keyboards, guitars).

* Swedish melodic rockers Eclipse will do a special live appearance in Bologna, Italy, on April 26. The same bill has (among others) Shakra and Edge Of Forever.

* Progpower Scandinavia is taking shape and has confirmed Pretty Maids and Iron Fire so far. The festival takes place in Copenhagen (at Vega) on september 25-26th.

Reuben Archer, lead singer of ’80s hard rock outfit STAMPEDE is set to reform the band after 26 years. A date of September 19, 2009 at The Robin 2 in Bilston, Wolverhampton has been set for the reunion gig.

The band line-up will feature original members Reuben Archer (vocals), Laurence Archer (guitar) and Colin Bond (bass).  Clive Edwards, formerly of Pat Travers, Wild Horses and UFO, will replace Eddie Parsons on drums as Eddie’s whereabouts is unknown.

Stampede formed in 1981 by the song-writing partnership of Reuben and Laurence Archer and signed to the Polydor label.  They previously made inroads into the NWOBHM movement with the bands Lautrec, Lionheart and Wild Horses and toured with the likes of Def Leppard, Whitesnake and Gary Moore.

In 1982 Stampede played the prestigious Reading festival where they recorded the live Official Bootleg album, which is due for re-release later this year. 1983 saw the band record their first studio album Hurricane Town with Polydor, which was re-mastered and re-released on Rock Candy Records in 2006 with bonus material.

Reuben made the decision to reunite the band following the re-release of Hurricane Town and due to a keen interest from the industry for the band to return to play UK and international festivals.  He says of the impending reunion:

“We’re really excited about getting together again.  Our very first rehearsal proved that our chemistry as a band is still alive and kicking.  We’re in the process of writing some new material so this is certainly an exciting venture for us!”

As Reuben is based in the Midlands, he has asked friends and Midlands premier classic rock band TRANZAM to share the bill at the Robin 2 reunion show on September 19.

Channel reissued!

One of the most soughtafter records of all time, Channel – s/t, will be reissued trough Rock Candy Records in april. Channel have never been released on cd before, but now it’s finally time. The band which saw Robert Fleischman (Journey, Vinnie Vincent Invasion), Gary Furguson (Black Rose), Trey Thompson and Tony Berg in the lineup released the record in 1984 but the group were shortlived due to Fleischman joined Vinnie Vincent Invasion. Rock Candy will release the record in april, hopefully with the usual fantastic remaster and linernotes
